Watchdog of Nigeria's electoral process
Youth-led citizens observation: organised as a national institution with published positions, a defined structure and a stated command chain.
A national citizens observation initiative
YEGO is a national youth-led citizens observation, vigilance and early-warning initiative established to strengthen electoral integrity, peaceful participation, credible elections and democratic accountability across Nigeria.
Building Nigeria's Largest Youth-Led Citizens Observation, Vigilance & Early-Warning Mechanism Against Electoral Violence, Promote Peaceful Participation and Credible Election
YEGO is built for the 2027 General Elections: a national structure that recruits, verifies, trains and certifies young Nigerians, deploys them to mapped polling units, and moves what they observe through a human verification process before anything is treated as a finding.

YEGO does not stand alone
YEGO is a flagship program of the Youth-Action for Electoral Accountability Partnership and Alliance (YEAPA) project, an initiative of Nigeria Youth Policy Development Advocacy (NYPD-Advocacy). The parentage is structural: it defines the mandate YEGO works under and the accountability it answers to.

Youth Electoral Guards Observers
National youth-led citizens observation, vigilance and early-warning mechanism
A flagship initiative of Nigeria Youth Policy Development Advocacy (NYPD-Advocacy).
A civic watchdog, and nothing else
A civic watchdog mistaken for a security outfit or a party vehicle loses the room before it observes a single polling unit. The boundaries are therefore stated first, plainly, and are not negotiable.
NOT a security agency
Guards observe and report. They do not police, arrest or enforce.
NOT a political party
YEGO does not support or campaign for any political party or candidate.
NOT a campaign organization
No candidate, no platform, no endorsement, at any level.
NOT a parallel electoral authority
YEGO does not conduct elections or replace the mandate of INEC.
A Nigeria where millions of youths participate as citizen observers: informed, vigilant and equipped to contribute to peaceful, non-violent, credible and accountable elections.
Three levels, one command chain
Strategy sits with a multi-stakeholder committee, implementation with the national structure, and execution with the six zonal structures. Down to the guards at the polling unit.
National Stakeholders Steering Committee
NSSCA multi-stakeholder strategic coordination body comprising representatives of youth organisations, civil society and institutional partners. The Committee provides strategic guidance, facilitates institutional collaboration and stakeholder coordination, and supports the effective, credible and non-partisan implementation of the YEGO citizens observation and early-warning framework.

The three levels
- Level 1National Stakeholders Steering Committee (NSSC)Strategic stakeholder body.
- Level 2YEGO National StructureProfessional implementation and operational management team.
- Level 3Six Zonal StructureRegional execution and coordination.
From the steering committee to the polling unit
Each level holds the scope its responsibility requires, and escalates what falls outside it. The chain ends where the observation happens: with the guards.

The command chain is the accountability path for deployment, reporting and escalation. It is not a rank structure of authority over the electoral process.
Targets, not achievements
These are the numbers the programme is designed around for the 2027 General Elections cycle. They are goals. They are not results, and they are not presented as results anywhere on this site.
From a field report to appropriate response
Collection, verification and transmission of credible incident information to established security and electoral authorities for responsive action.
ERARM: YEGO Early Warning & Rapid Response Mechanisms
ERARM will leverage the targeted network of 300,000 Electoral Guards across Nigeria. Once onboarded and trained, YEGO Electoral Guards will serve as the human observation and reporting network of ERARM, identifying, monitoring, verifying and reporting emerging electoral risks, threats, voter intimidation, disruptions and other incidents that may affect peaceful participation and the integrity of the electoral process. It also facilitates information-sharing with relevant authorities and institutional partners to support appropriate preventive and responsive action.
ERART: YEGO Early Warning & Rapid Response Tool
ERART will serve as the digital reporting and incident-management platform powering the mechanism, enabling Electoral Guards and coordinators to submit, document, verify and track relevant reports.
GMP: Governance Monitoring Platform
After elections, YEGO volunteers are transformed into democratic accountability fellows through the Governance Monitoring Platform.
Seven interventions, one discipline
Observation is only the first of them. The mechanism runs from training and intelligence through to post-election accountability.

How 300,000 people become a mechanism
Human observation is the input. A verification mechanism is the machine. Information-sharing with authorities is the output.
